I love gin.com

After being gifted mermaid gin I looked in to other gins, I didn’t really want to invest in big bottles unless I liked them. With some gins being over £40 a bottle. I came across I love gin.com monthly subscription boxes as a sponsored ad on Instagram and thought I would give them ago, at £9 for the first box and £14 there after what did I have to lose?!

Each box comes with 2 x 5cl gins and 2 x tonics. It has a handy little booklet that tells you about the gin and the tonic. It has garnish and pairing suggestions as well as the perfect serve. You can also get discounts on big bottles when you become a member too. My first box had palmers celebrations gin, palmers London dry, double Dutch pomegranate and basil and double dutch spices and Oakwood limited edition mixers.

You can buy little 5cl bottles in some supermarkets but the selection is not huge and most are well know gins. Ive come across some farm shops and small local shops that do sell 5cl bottles of different gins from independent distillery’s but Still at £5-£6 a bottle it can still be costly.

I love gin.com is a great way to try new gins from unique distilleries, mixers and tonics. It’s great value for money with 2 gins and 2 tonics for £14 a month. If you do like the gin or gins in your months box then you can buy it at a discounted price on the I love gin.com website. They also run exclusive competition for members too.

Unfortunately I had to stop my subscription but I’m keen to start it again soon as I did really enjoy getting my box every month and trying a new gin.

Gin a day May

What is gin a day may you may ask, well it’s a social media challenge that happens in funny enough may. Each day has a theme and you post a picture or video on your social media accounts of that theme with gin related post with the hashtag #ginadaymay.

Day 8 for example was bottle, I posted Isle of Harris gin, the bottle is stunning and beautifully crafted.

The aim of it is to promote and build the gin community online, you may find new accounts to follow and some new gins to add to your ever growing collection. It’s hosted and created by Sarah who is the face behind the gin_a_ding_ding account. She has amazing knowledge of all things gin, a self proclaimed gin geek and gin judge.

This was my first “gin a day may” and I found it really fun. I posted almost everyday. With only being part of the gin world for almost a year I couldn’t post on some days but did my best. I’ve gain some new followers and have started following some amazing new accounts, I also found that I really didn’t know how many gin there are in the world. Seeing everyone’s “shelfies” was brilliant and it gave me ideas for my own shelf as my kitchen side is becoming somewhat over crowed now.

I really looked forward to seeing everyone’s post and for new and exciting gins to maybe add to my shelf. The creativity of peoples post was amazing and gave me new ideas for my next days post. In the month I purchased 3 new bottles and was gifted 1 for a late birthday present, I’m sure I could of bought more but I’m limiting myself and making sure I have time to try and enjoy the ones I have.

Being in lockdown this was a great challenge to help keep boredom at bay and give me something to look forward to. I hadn’t posted much on my account for a little while as was finding it hard for content so this gave me a massive boost to start posting again. It also gave me the boost to finally start my blog.

I started my gin account as to not clog up my personal account so my friends and family don’t get bored of seeing gin bottles and think I’m also an alcoholic (always drink responsibly kids)

I’m looking forward to next year and what exciting theme there will be for each day, I’m sure by then I’ll be able to post everyday and have more exciting gins.

Mermaid Gin

Leading on from my “how it all began”

As I said before it started with mermaid gin.

I was gifted this gin from a friend who does really loves gin and also likes mermaids. Knowing how I felt about gin she decided to gift me this to try and change my mind on the matter and I think she did a good job.

“Our signature gin’s name was inspired by its lead botanical rock samphire, known locally as ‘mermaid’s kiss”

Mermaid gin has been distilled on the isle of white since 2014 and in 2019 got a make over with a fresh new style of bottle.

Not only does it have a beautifully crafted bottle it is also a beautiful smooth gin. It has 10 ethically sourced botanicals, Fresh organic lemon zest, grains of paradise, local rock samphire, elderflower and of course juniper which is the base for every gin. Each botanical gives every gin a unique taste, smell and finish.

The fresh rock samphire being one of the main profiles of mermaid gin. It’s locally sourced on the isle of whites coast line it gives the gin hints of fresh citrus and sea air, grains of paradise gives a smooth and warm peppery note and elderflower enhances and adds aroma, juniper which is a base for every gin, to touch on a few of the botanical that stand out for me.

The style of this gin is smooth and refreshing. It has fresh citrus, sweet spice and gentle juniper smell with a citrus zing and peppery spice on the palette.

Now let’s talk about the bottle.

After some research I found out that the bottle Is Crafted from recyclable glass, it features a sustainably sourced natural cork stopper and compostable tamper-proof seal.

This is just amazing as the world try’s to become more sustainable and the use of single uses plastic and non recyclable packaging are becoming discontinued company’s are looking for better ways to save our plant and still have quality products. Reuse of Mermaid Gin bottles is encouraged massively and just by simply producing a bottle of such beauty that we are inclined to repurpose it and why would you want to throw away such a beautiful bottle?!.

Also Mermaid Gin has been certified as Plastic-Free by A plastic planet, well done isle of white distillery.

How it all began

Adventure of gin.

Let me introduce myself, I’m michelle mum of 2 wild children, I have a girl and a boy. I’m a Lover of really good food, I love to bake and cook from scratch. My full time job is working for the wonderful world of lush cosmetics as a compounder (I make the product, yes I have a face sticker) anyway that’s me, pretty much.

let talk about why I’m joining the world of blogging. It all started almost a year ago (I know it’s taken me almost a year to start typing but given the fact we are in the middle of a pandemic now is a good as time as any)

I was gifted a bottle of mermaid gin. After having somewhat of a bad experience with gin at my 6th form prom, I decided gin wasn’t for me but after receiving the bottle and trying it I fell in love. Turns out that if you drink a cheap gin and a cheap tonic it isn’t going to be a great time.

One of the main causes why some people have a certain dislike for G&T is because of poor quality tonics and/or wrong ratios. So with that being the case for me I got to thinking of how many small batch gin and how many tonics there are on the market these days, which a lot of people put time and effort in to, to make a beautiful gin and tonic.

So with that being said I’m starting my blog all about my adventures of gin and finding and tasting beautiful small batch gins, tonics and mixes. Ill obviously be starting with the gin that started it all and hopefully when this pandemic is over I’ll be able to visit the distillery’s of these wonderful gins and meet the makers
